Microfilm is the lowest cost, long term, archiving media available with a proven track record for securing valuable documents and business data. It started life in the 1850’s and developed for 50 years until the first patent was filed. Formscan have been creating 16mm roll microfilm and Computer Output to Microfiche (COM) for over 40 years. We handle information from over 170 different data formats including images and PDF’s and over 50 different source media types. We pre-process to ensure clear concise documents are recorded.

Many organisations have stopped archiving their data to microfilm believing that the digital age removes the need for this method of archiving, however, the opposite is true, there is an even greater need to use microfilm for business record retention particularly as the regulatory bodies are biting with even greater force when information cannot be found.

At the pre-processing (ingestion) stage we can extract or create indexes on microfilm or magnetic media to ensure integrity and easy retrieval. This process can also sort and validate data too.

Microfilm is non-technology dependant so is excellent as a disaster recovery/business continuity storage media. It cannot be altered so has information security as standard.

Handling microfilm for filing and retrieval has always been the time consuming element in the process but Formscan’s managed bunker service means that your valuable business assets can sent electronically to us, written to microfilm and held in secure environment for many years. Retrieval requests for information are made electronically and the fiche or roll film is retrieved by our experienced staff and images are delivered back electronically to the client.
